The Shoreline and Sea
Everyone loves the seaside. For a variety of reasons the sea, for an island people, has huge significance for our identity and our culture, the complexity of who we are, individually and collectively. The sea is a border, a gateway to Europe and the rest of the world, a window into our maritime history. Trips to the sea, particularly childhood ones, create strong lasting memories of friendships, love and good times. My attitude to the sea is one of exploration, the search for abandoned ships and buildings, for windswept cliffs and coastal walks.
